  • This weekend was pretty chill.

    Friday

Esther and I met up with Shane, Jen and Wayne at this place called Habibi's Cafe.   It's that place where you smoke out of this decorative thing and the tobacco is flavored with some fruit substance.   No, Esther and I didn't smoke but we went for social factors.   Jen, Wayne and Shane seemed to enjoy it.   After they were done, we went to Didi Reese for ice cream and cookies and then went home.

    Saturday

Esther and I went to San Pedro to check out the pier.   All I have to say is never again.    I thought the food at Redondo Beach pier was pretty bad but San Pedro's was worse.   After we ate, we left and played cards.   We met up with Jen, Wayne and Dave around 11 at this pub near Sammy's Woodfired Pizza and chilled there for a while.

    Sunday

I didn't do much.   I met up with Mike, Jimmy, and Erwin at Grant park for some balling but that's about it.

    Holdem

I've been playing a lot of online poker lately and I've come to conclude that 80% of the people on there have no idea how to play.    That's a whole other story in itself.   Anywho, to the people that play Texas Holdem, I pose a question:  what do you think are the best two pocket cards to start out with (can't be paired)?    A few friends feel that king-queen is the best hand.   I personally agree with the rankings that ace-king is the best.   What do you all think?   Remember, the cards can't be paired.

Updated:  I talked to Minh and he gave me different points of view which are pretty interesting.

  • What's up young lad??! Here's my answer to your question.

There are the typical "premium" raising hands, such as AK, KK, AQ, QQ, and sometimes AJ.  I think KQ is a good hand ONLY if the pot wasn't raised preflop.  Why? If the pot was raised preflop, you're most likely up against those raising hands i previously stated.  If you are, you're in big trouble.  If the flop comes up with a K, you might be up against AK, or KK and won't be able to lay down your hand (since you paired the board, but you might be outkicked).  The same situation goes if the flop comes up with a Q, you might be up against AQ and be outkicked.

However, if there wasn't a preflop raise, I'd say 80% of the time you can say your KQs is the best hand out there.  If that's the case, then yeah, KQs is a really good starting hand.  Some people don't raise at all with those premium hands and they like slowplaying.  You just gotta know how the player plays.

Remember, small suited connectors from 65s to 98s are REALLY good underestimated hands.  Also, you gotta love them small pocket pairs.

I forgot to tell you why those are good starting hands.  1) With those hands, you want as many players as you can in the pot.  The more players, the more money you can extract.  When you hit your hand (a straight or a set), its hard for people to put u on that hand so get the most money out of it.  The premium hands i stated above (AK, KK, etc.) are best against the least amount of players.  2) If you don't get a piece of the flop, then you can easily fold your hand right?  If you don't hit a straight draw with the connectors, fold.  If you don't hit a set (3 of a three kind), fold.

With the trouble hands such as KQ, Q10, KJ, etc, its hard to let go of the hand when you hit it.  A good percent of the time you are outkicked, so be careful.
That is all for now son!

  • damn i wanna play now

    [logs onto partypoker] lol
